The warmest day was reported at Fort Myers and Punta Gorda at 86F

The coolest daytime high was 71F in Destin.
The warmest overnight low was 73F at both Key West and Marathon.

The coolest night was 51F in Jacksonville.

* several record highs today , including the 86F reading in Fort Myers, an 85F reading in Sarasota.
Tampa's 84F reading tied a 1950 temperature record for January 25

Thunderstorms weren't very common as thought it might be. Just alot of light to moderate rain, always happy to receive it.

Once again the Orlando area only got but a few light showers, enough to only wet the ground. Is going to be a long fire season if we do not get any decent rain before then.

At least South FL looks to have a wet weekend with the front stalling down there.

Possible tornado touch down in Port Charlotte area

PORT CHARLOTTE - 911 dispatchers in the Port Charlotte area have confirmed they received multiple calls Friday morning about a possible tornado touch down.

The National Weather Service in Ruskin is sending officials to assess the situation and gather more information.

Charlotte Emergency Services tell us they began receiv

ing calls just before 6 a.m.

All seem to have come within a mile radius in the area of Harbour Heights, where I-75 connects with Kings Highway.

Officials report that at least one home was destroyed. Others reported minor home damage, caved-in ceilings and uprooted trees.

There were initially no reports of injuries, officials say.

A nice, steady moderate rain from about 2am through 6am totaling about an inch, making over 3" in the past 10 days! Much needed and welcomed rains to green up everything brown from the cold earlier this month. No winds, I didnt hear any thunder. Just good rains!

What a tropical winter so far, with only cold around Jan. 3-5. I wonder if February will be the same?

Big difference from a little over a year ago in 2010, those winters were downright cold!

Watching all that brutal cold bottled up in Alaska. Until it goes away and does not come south to us, I will not rest. Tomorrow is Feb 1st which usually means an uphill trend, but it is not until the last week of Feb that we can rest. March can be a beautiful month (and a day off or two to enjoy it).........

With no blocking over Greenland that brutal cold air over Alaska would either retreat towards eastern Asia or slide eastward towards eastern Canada or do both. I feel confident that at least the first two weeks of February will stay average to above average in the FL Peninsula with a continuing positive NAO regime.

This La Nina has been remarkable this winter season or should I say non-winter the way it has gone so far. I have only recorded seven total mornings of temperatures at or below freezing this season.

I don't know if we will get any significant pattern change to bring down any polar air masses southward into this part of the world anytime soon. Glancing at the Euro and GFS long range runs, they have been hinting at possible height rises across the Western CONUS during the first half of February. This may carve out a deep upper level trough across the Eastern 2/3 of the CONUS in time, but the model runs are still not showing consistency in terms of the evolution of this right now. We will have to wait and see. I'll find it hard to imagine if we can get through February without at least one significant cold snap across the North Florida region. However, La Nina this season has held mighty strong for sure.

BTW, with the way the tree pollen is stirring around already in the air around here and the azaleas already beginning to bloom, it sure looks like that Spring has really come early this year.

We're seeing that in SE TX too. The tree pollen is ripping me a new pair of sinuses these days. UGH!!! I would really like some Winter just to clear the air for a while.

From what I read on Accuweather, it seems that the brutal cold in Alaska will be retreating to Siberia rather than coming down here. So even with a positive PNA and negative AO, it won't be *that* cold with that upcoming trough, because the cold air just won't be on the playing field to begin with. Not that it would matter anyway because re: South Florida, the window is closing fast, almost pretty much closed for prolonged/significant cold events. You're seeing that strong ridging in the Caribbean and SW Atlantic show up - tough to get any real cold intrusions.

Remarkably warm winter, but not unprecedented....I can remember quite a few winters like this. I think the most striking thing about this winter hasn't been the daytime highs (though it got to the upper 80s in Ft. Lauderdale last Friday!), it's the pathetic nighttime lows. It's been a struggle to even get below 70!

Long range agrees with no cold air intrusions. Yesterday was 80F once again, and we are beginning the morning at 60F. Very nice. My power bill gets a real breather, and the signs of spring on the plants is obvious. I still will not relax until the last week of Feb. I've seen warmer winters and a late cold snap - not brutal - but enough to cause plant damage. Here's hoping for continued warmth!

this (non) winter has been a godsend. we deserved compensation after the past 2 years and we're getting it:)
