The rain is just beginning here in Jacksonville. Current temperature 46 degrees. A raw, cool and wet day in store for today with max temps only reaching the mid 50s at best today. The rain is very light at the start, but will become steadier as the day progresses. Very good overrunning event is underway today across North Florida.

Bad timing for the Daytona 500 today unfortunately. A very strong probability that they will not be racing today. But, this is just what we need in this portion of the peninsula as rainfall has been severely lacking here in Jax for several months.

...and yet another crappy weather weekend in Tampa Bay. Yesterday we squeezed out afternoon sun as the clouds faded - not went away - just became very thin, and lower 70's. Right now it is a little drizzle and 53F. Thur and Fri were well into the 80's and Friday was typically sunny. How am I to get all the yard/planting/mulch work done? It is like we are on a 7 day cycle of not so nice weather. Move it to Wed..and get us our normal, sunny weather on Sat and Sun~Just venting.

Tonight: A slight chance of rain showers before 11pm, then a chance of rain showers and sleet between 11pm and 2am, then a chance of rain showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Northeast wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected

I just checked out your tiny town on Wikipedia. March is usually the month for your bipolar weather, I see. Generally here in Pasco Co, March stabilizes although I have seen frost in the open fields at the middle school I teach at which is 16 miles N and E of me in rural north county. Lowest recorded here since 1992 at my house is 35F in that Storm of the Century. Take that away, and there have been a few occasions in early March for 36F. Winter is over here.

The first batch of rain has just ended at my locale here in Jax. I measured just over 1/10 of an inch so far. Current temperature 48 degrees. Just a raw, dreary cool day for sure.

More rain will come into Northeast Florida later today. Radar showing a solid area of light to steady rain extending from a line from Daytona west to Crystal River extending westward out into the Gulf of Mexico for a couple hundred of miles. Looks like a washout likely today at the Speedway.

So far so good for the Orlando area staying mostly dry with a continuing warm up temps as finally the modifying Atlantic air has arrived into the interior areas cutting off any overruning formation of rain. Daytona may luck out too as the overall precipitation keeps pushing north.

NDG, I don't think the Daytona area will luck out today. The overrunning precipitation line of rain has basically stayed the same for the past several hours. The line has continued from Daytona through Leesburg to Crystal River and out into the GOM for a couple hundred miles. It looked briefly for awhile that the rain area may lift north of Daytona and that they may get the race started. However, observing the latest radar, there is a large area of light and steady rain moving out of the Gulf and training along this line west to east. I just don't see them getting a break in this rain today down there at the Speedway.

The overrunning line of rain has just missed the Orlando area to their north and northeast all day long. They have lucked out today for sure. However, rain will eventually make it into the Orlando metro area later this evening and into the overnight as the frontal boundary which had stalled out across South Florida will lift back northward during the next 24 hours, This should trigger scattered showers and possibly thundershowers back into this region during this period.

For me here in Jax, our next round of rain is now moving in from Apalachee Bay and will come into the Jax metro area in the next 2 -3 hours. The rain has been light to this point as I have only received just over 1/10 of an inch with this event from the rain that moved through earlier this morning. The break in the rain has allowed our temps to warm the last three hours. Current temp now 55.2 degrees.

I keep saying what bad luck NASCAR has had at Daytona 500 yesterday and possibly today as well with the pattern turning we after such a dry pattern this winter.

Warm front push through central FL earlier today, so many locations are now in the low 80s with some afternoon pop up like showers developing in the warm & humid air south of the frontal boundary.

Yeah, NDG we are now beginning to get the convective pop up showers and thundershowers that are now developing in the heat and humidity more typical of summer down across the peninsula.

Scattered thunderstorms are now re-firing to the west and southwest of the Jax metro area and this will continue into the early evening. The showers are moving east-southeast and there poses the problem for the Daytona area once again this evening. Currently, there are a line thundershowers just west of I-75 corridor from Gainesville south to Ocala and Wildwood. This is the line of thundershowers that I am afraid maycome into the Daytona area at about the time of the 7 p.m. start this evening. It does not bode well again for them down there and I would not be surprised to see this race get pushed back to tomorrow. Maybe the line will decrease as we lose the daytime heating up to race time.

Total rainfall since yesterday measured at my home locale was measures at .63 of an inch. Just over 1/2 inch. We need much more than that to help relieve the drought we are experiencing in the northeast peninsula. I think we will get one more decent shot of rain moving through this evening.

Looks like Daytona 500 is going to luck out tonight, northjaxpro. Either an outflow like boundary or seabreeze pushed through Daytona earlier this evening stabilizing the atmosphere out some with some of the showers drying up some as they get closer to Daytona.

Yeah, it looks as if they will get the race in tonight completely. The line of showers decreased the past hour to hour and a half as they were approaching Daytona from the west before race time. Also, I agree with you that it appeared as if an outflow boundary pushed out and developed a nice line of thunderstorms south of the I-4 corridor eastward to Cocoa Beach early tonight.

Here are a couple of pixs of the sky that I took on my way home earlier this afternoon, very tropical looking sky.

All the way at the end of the peninsula, it's been approaching, and occasionally reaching "downright hot." I really hope we get more "cool fronts" in March and April, but it's looking pretty grim, isn't it? Even if NAO dipped negative, I wonder if it'd be enough to get a little surge of cool air down here.

I don't like hard freezes that ruin Florida's crops, but I do like cool, comfortable weather...not really enjoying May weather in February, I don't know about you guys.

Big blowup of thunderstorms due to seabreeze collision over the interior part of central Florida. Some strong embedded cells with heavy rain. Very May-like indeed.

It would be REAL nice if a few of those seabreeze storms made it over to my neck of the woods. All that prediction of weekend rain totaled a whopping 1/4". Sunday was cloudy, miserable not quite 70F. Monday....sunny and warm! 80's................... Seeing this convergence in late February is kind of surreal.

Crazy thing. Almost looked like a rainy season convection pattern over the mainland today. And this is February!
