Really enjoying this much needed rain. Forecast appears rainy but very humid. Last month was hotter but it was drier which is both good and bad. Good in that it feels nicer but the bad side is that fires are more likely to occur.

Nothing like a couple days of clouds and rain to temper the near shore Gulf temps. This always finds a way to happen when things get out of hand. Radar is lit up again today...like a switch was turned..it seems about half the time we ease into the rainy season and the other half involves a high dive into the deep end. 2019 is the latter.

So far an inch of rain in Lehigh Acres SW Fl LEE County. It has been a great day of off and on showers. What a relief.

In 48 hours my neighborhood went from crunchy and smoky to a swamp with multiple inches of rain.

So glad we've started to get some rain. No day has been a washout by any stretch, but since Friday, even coastal areas of south central Dade that often seem to end up dry have seen some periodic storms.

Lots of areal flooding took place throughout NWS Jax's coverage area this afternoon, particularly in southeast Georgia. I think they issued areal flood warnings for up to ten different counties in Georgia, but it looks like the warnings have since expired. Florida seemed to miss out on most of the locally heavy rainfall today.

The last few days this whole week have really been, some smoke but not much fire in terms of actual convection over the Miami area. Pretty disappointing weather for having a SW flow nearly the whole time.

A lot of rain here in Palm Beach County though with the SW flow. We went from dry to swampy in a hurry.

Nice to see a southeast flow setting back up which should yield a typical rainy season convective pattern. We could use some dry time and some more sun..

:uarrow: Yes Psyclone that's right. The southeasterly flow is becoming established going forward, at least into next week. This should get the peninsula really into our normal summer routine of daily scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

It took awhile for the rainy season to kick into gear after the record heat wave that gripped the Deep South and Northern Florida due to the upper level ridge in late May into the first week of June.

Now, the peninsula overall should see appreciable rainfall as we move deeper into this month. This past week, I have received a total of just under 3.5 inches, which has indeed really helped in greening my lawn again and have put a huge dent in the wildfire threat we had dealt with here in North Florida due to that recent dry spell and heat wave.

Have a good day and great Father's Day weekend everyone!

CPC outlooks are back to above normal temps and below normal precip. since it's normally wet we may still do ok rain wise but there's little doubt another episode of meltdown heat is on the way which will juice near shore water temps. Rinse and repeat..

So much for the forecasts of a few days ago of 30-40% weekend convective coverage...more like 60-80% around here. my neighborhood got bombed last night with extremely heavy rain and the morning radar shows plenty of showers and storms streaming onto the east coast...always an indicator of good thunderstorm coverage later over the interior and western areas of the state with sufficient insolation. amazing how fast things change but we'll be ready when (and if) some drier weather returns as expected.

Big time boundary collision imminent from Plant city to Tampa to St Pete should result in explosive thunderstorm development. Hopefully people are paying attention..

We will have good rain and thunderstorm coverage from now through Wednesday statewide, thanks to sufficient moisture in place and seabreeze convergence interactions enhancing the storm coverage each day. However, model guidance are signaling this afternoon that the Upper Ridge looks to build back over across North Florida by the latter portions of this week going into next weekend. This could mean a return to above normal temps and lesser rain coverage by Friday. Let's hope we do not have the makings of another heat wave similar to what we had in late May and at the beginning of this month, However, the recent rainfall has for the short term, alleviated our wildfire concerns across North and Northeast Florida.

I'm afraid the antecedent conditions will make this heatwave worse as we now have the requisite ground moisture for oppressive humidity to accompany the heat. mid 90's and humid feels worse to me than slightly drier and warmer conditions. it's going to be rough..

Tornado warning near Disney

:uarrow:

Yikes. A regular severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the same area three or four minutes prior to the issuance of the TOR, and it didn't mention any tornado threat. That's actually kind of scary. Sometimes when a SVR is issued, I look at the velocity products to see if there's anything sketchy going on even if the warning doesn't have the "tornado possible" tag, but my skills with reading those are rudimentary at the moment.

Up here in northeast Florida, we also got two or so surprise severe thunderstorms early this afternoon, but nothing potentially tornadic on land, at least to my knowledge.

Sunday was fun with tons of rain and lightning. Monday through Wednesday have been boring in terms of weather excitement- a few heavy showers but the heaviest stuff and best storms have gone either north or south of me in northeast st Pete. Last night was kinda fun with good lightning and gusty winds, but rain didn’t last long.

Big boring dry hot humid period coming up. Oh well if those SSTs cook hopefully we can get some big sea breeze storm action in July. A tropical storm would be fun too.
