GROUND MOISTURE WILL PROVIDE IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR SURFACE TEMPERATURES TO DROP TO 32 DEGREES OVER SOME RURAL AREAS OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS TUESDAY MORNING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A
FREEZE WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 7 AM CST
TUESDAY.

AFTER A DAY OF COLD NORTHERLY WINDS BRINGING IN LOW DEWPOINTS, LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS WILL FOLLOW TONIGHT. CLEAR SKIES WILL ALLOW SURFACE TEMPERATURES TO DROP TO 32 DEGREES OVER PART OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS. THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON AS FAR SOUTH AS CATARINA, PEARSALL AND POTEET...AND...LOCKHART AND ROSANKY.

A FREEZE WARNING MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE IMMINENT OR
HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

Yes, I agree with you. I think the "freeze catastrophe" heading is a bit too extreme for a light freeze. It might be appropriate if we were going to dip into the teens or single digits, but that isn't looking likely for tonight. lol.

It might be "catastrophic" for the deer down around Pearsall.

There are no freeze advisories or warnings from Corpus Christi to Laredo and south...or on the coast...the title of this post is definitely one of the funniest this year though...gets a reaction and a chuckle!


Now the reality is....folks will probably be using the a/c in south Texas in a few days...

There is talk of contraflow lanes on the highways to help get folks to safety in a hurry

I lost an avocado tree and a lemon tree in a freeze like this in December 2004. I had wrapped them in frost paper as well.



The orange tree seems quite a bit hardier, and my palm trees laught at a light freeze with no ill effects whatsoever.
