On Kanin was after the last snowfall (6.-8.2.) Recorded a record amount of snow throughout the ski resort Kanin operating history (since 1974). In the central part of the ski (okrepčevalnica Prestreljenik, 2202 m) is the thickness of snow cover reached 880 cm(28feet). In the higher parts of the ski slopes and in exposed locations, the snow more. From November until now is due to the Kanin together for more than 1100cm(35 feet) of snow

Was this accumulation in a single snowfall event? How many hours did the snow fall? Can you imagine the avalanche hazard!!? The chairlift is snowed in......

Re: 13 feet of snow in Val Zoldana(Italy)
Probably not from a single storm as they've been having a series of them, however, in the Western US single storm totals of 10-12 feet are not uncommon especially in the Sierra where the US record for a single storm-189 inches or 15.75 ft was set 50 years ago this month. During El Niño winters, it's not unusual for ski resorts in the Sierra to have snowbases of 300-360 inches at the top of the runs (record for the Sierra is 390 inches). Avalanche danger BTW, has to be astronomical right now in the Alps.

Re: Snow in Val Zoldana(Italy) and South coast
I realize this is about the Italy snow basically, but I have some general questions.
How often does something like this occur in this area?
It seems to me that much of Southern Europe has been experiencing a much colder than normal Winter, thus much more Winter precipitation than normal. Is this correct?
If this is correct, what has been suggeste or pinpointed as the cause of this apparent difference from "normal" winters in this region?

Hmmm a fast spring melt would be pretty scary if there are habitations in the valleys below that mountain!
