Low Pressure System "Yoda"

#1 Postby Extratropical94 » Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:13 pm

First fall storm is sweeping through here.
Storm warnings and high tide advisories are up for Northern Germany.
I've just been out to the North Sea dike and measured some wind.
I got a 92 km/h (57 mph) one-minute sustained and gusts of 106, 109 and 115 km/h (66, 68 and 71 mph).
The winds pushed the seas about 5-6 ft. higher than the normal high tide. At a stage of 9+ ft. the water would overflow the barriers.

Highest gusts in Germany so far:

List/Sylt (29 m) 126 km/h (78 mph)
Brocken (1142 m) 126 km/h (78 mph)
Kiel Lighthouse (23 m) 115 km/h (71 mph)
Fichtelberg (1215 m) 112 km/h (70 mph)
Alte Weser Lighthouse (31 m) 108 km/h (67 mph)
Kap Arkona/Rügen (42 m) 108 km/h (67 mph)
Glücksburg/Meierwik (33 m) 102 km/h (63 mph)
Helgoland/Düne (8 m) 101 km/h (63 mph)

Highest gusts in Great Britain (mainly Scotland):

Cairngorm Mtns (1245 m) 180 km/h (112 mph)
Aonach Mor (1130 m) 169 km/h (105 mph)
Bealach Na Ba (773 m) 154 km/h (96 mph)
Glen Ogle (564 m) 154 km/h (96 mph)
Great Dun Fell (847 m) 144 km/h (89 mph)
Fair Isle (57 m) 144 km/h (89 mph)
Wick (36 m) 131 km/h (81 mph)
Kirkwall Airport (21 m) 130 km/h (81 mph)

The system also brought an end to the dry conditions here.
We recieved .5 in (13 mm) this weekend while the last notable rain came down in the last week of October.
Still some places in Germany haven't seen a drop of rain in November.
Thus many rivers like the Rhine are at or even below record low levels.
