European weather

#1 Postby Nicko999 » Fri Aug 10, 2012 11:23 pm

I think our European friends deserve their own thread...

There was a massive heat wave (Saharan air) in Eastern Europe a few days ago... Ruse, Bulgaria recorded 43.5C.

Temperature reached 45.3C in Cordoba, Spain today (completely different heat wave though).

The exceptionally high readings likely sprung from a shot of searing-hot air that broke away from the western Sahara at the start of the week.

The most intense, far-reaching heat happened Tuesday, when 100-degree heat spread in a continuous swathe over northern Bulgaria, southern and eastern Romania, Moldova, reaching well into Ukraine.

Among the highest temperatures was that reached at Ruse, Bulgaria, where 110 degrees F was registered. Highs of 109 degrees were set in Podgorica, Montenegro, and Bacau, Romania. These readings are near all-time historical highs. [/QUOTE]

I think the 45.3C recorded in Cordoba today is the highest temperature in Europe this year.

45.9C in Sevilla, Spain today... insane heat! Only 2.1C from the all-time European high of 48C in Athens, Greece.

Figures, when we here in this part of North American have to deal with VERY crappy weather (below seasonal and rainy...eww), they get the insane heat waves and vice-versa. I could really use it right about now because this overcast and cool stuff is not working for me. The only good thing about it is you get a noticeably better night sleep when its like this.

Montreal is now the warmest city in Eastern Canada in August. :sun: :P

Don't know why you say crappy weather! :cheesy:

Anyway it has cooled down a lot in Europe. I think we won't see 45C+ temperatures over there again until next year.

BREAKING NEWS: A new national all-time heat record has been broken for the Czech Republic today (August 20) with a reading of 40.4°C (104.7°F) at Dobrichovice. This just edges out the former record of 40.2°C (104.4°F) from Uhrineves set on July 27, 1983.

Even warmer today with Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria reaching 42.8C... the warmest place in Europe.

Crazy!!! Bulgaria seems to be even warmer than Spain or Greece this summer.

Bulgaria did it again... 6 stations were above 40C (out of the 13 total that were above that mark in Europe today)!!!

Pleven and Svichtov hit 41.5C, they were Europe's warmspots.

MASSIVE heat wave in the Balkans once again...

The warmspot was Adana, Turkey at 38.6C but the most impressive record was from Northern Bulgaria... Ruse reported 35.7C and they are at a latitude of 43N (while Adana is 37N). Averages over there at this time of the year should be around 20C...

Wow...

Adana, Turkey up to 39.0C today! But considering its on Asian territory, the warmest European point today was Palermo, Italy at 38.0C.

It was 34.7C in Lovetch, Bulgaria which is pretty at that latitude.

Wow... we could potentially have a candidate for Heatwave of 2013 (Worldwide).

Take a look at Tromso, Norway's forecast... and keep in mind their all-time May high temperature is 24.1C and their all-time high is 30.2C.

Also keep in mind they are NORTH of the Arctic circle (69N).:P

I know it's Google but you get the idea.

So this is currently unwinding across much of central Europe:

Image

Massive flooding across much of the alps, Eastern Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria.

The Danube is going to set a new flood-record exceeding 40 ft. The average water level is 16 feet.
