Five for five Pacific hurricanes?

#1 Postby Hurricanehink » Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:08 am

Now that Tropical Depression Five-E has formed, it's time to point out some climatology. With Dora, the first four named storms became hurricanes, which was the first time since 1971. The last season to have the first five Pacific storms become hurricanes was 1966 (which actually had six!), but that was borderline outside the era of reliable record-keeping.

The NHC likes the depression's odds for becoming a hurricane (a 43% chance as of the first advisory). What do you think? Could 2011 do it?

(could a moderator make this a poll)

Voted for yes since the NHC kind of underestimated the EPAC storms (Adrian, Dora).

Probably so; strong storm after strong storm keeps forming in the EPAC, and weak, short-lived storms form in the Atlantic. It's just the story of the season.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

The EPAC needs interest and 1966 had TD's during that six hurricane period. So, yea it go 5 for 5.

Yes I believe it will and in fact I think it could become a major hurricane too. Yellow Evan was the first to call MH.

Derek Jeter says if he can do it (go 5 for 5), so can the EPAC.
