Interesting picture. The low level "clouds" in West-Central Luzon are likely the volcanic ashes from Mt. Pinatubo. That satpic was taken 24 hours before the eye made landfall, and the climactic eruption of Pinatubo.

Super Typhoon Pamela was truly a nightmare with widespread destruction for Guam...

50 knots sustained for over 30 hours!

I remembered this one...This is what a 155 knots Super Typhoon looks like as dvorak maxed out at 7.5...JTWC never went higher than a minimal cat 5 at 140 knots maybe due to constraints...I wonder why...

I found the picture when I was browsing articles about her on google. Google image search has no results except something mildly disturbing... :eek:

It definitely looks grainy enough to be from 1960.

Eye is kinda pentagon-shaped. Reminds me of Katrina's triangle-y eye in the GOM.
