I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

Now this has got to be the strongest recon has gotten into with a photo available...Can't find any photo of Tip's eye with recon inside...Although there have been stronger

Recon in the 5 nm eye of Super Typhoon Forrest...1983...876 mb

Fastest intensification in the world but biased since recon is no longer present here...

In the West Pacific, Typhoon Forrest in September 1983 deepened by 100 mb (976 to 876 mb) in just under 24 hr (Roger Edson, personal communication) .

Super Typhoon June (1975) at 875 mb with it's 3 mile diameter eye, a record at the time...although dropsonde measured this pressure near the eyewall not in center of eye where pressure could have been 10 mb lower according to a meteorologist and could have been stronger than Tip due to the small eye....

Quite surprised that Isabel has not been posted in this thread

She's always my number one for beauty and roundness with the most impressive annular hurricane structure known to date

Although Zoe and Monica are the only cyclones received official estimates of 155kt in the SHEM, there're many significant but not well-known storms likely had been overlooked by JTWC including Olaf,Percy, and Geralda. They all qualifies T7.5/155kt on dvorak analysis yet were not rated such.

Excluding recon flights, the lowest pressure recorded in a typhoon during the post-recon era (since 1987) was in Super Typhoon Maemi in 2003. The Japanese island of Miyakojima recorded a pressure of 912mb.

Here is Super Typhoon Maemi at peak intensity of 150KT (1-min sustained).
