That thing looks epic with the tail. Reminds me of that picture of Allen. I love the small core embedded in the swirl. Absolutely gorgeous.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

When looking at ~6.9 um wavelength satellite imagery, which is recorded by Bands 9 on both contemporary GOES and Himawari imagery as mid-level water vapor, Meranti '16 possesses the highest eye temperature I am aware of at -5.0ºC. This beats out other warm and dry eyed storms such as Nepartak '16, Kong-rey '18, Dorian '19, and Goni '20. This eye temperature was recorded by Himawari-8 at 09/13/2016 1320Z, only four hours before the Itbayat eye passage, when yet to be verified pressures were recorded below 880 mb.

I would like to contribute these images of Goni 2020 on 10/30/2020 at 0437z. These images are from the polar VIIRS and have a spatial resolution of 375 meters.

I love this image as it really shows how gosh darn close we could have seen a disaster that makes Andrew look like an infant. Dorian was definitely a historic disaster for the Bahamas, but if it decided to copy the 1992 storm as well....we could have been dealing with a situation that I would rather not think about.

Ok so this is an old sat pic so I don't know if this has already been posted here, but I'm too lazy to look through all the pages and a bunch of the pictures were uploaded on image hosting websites that don't show the actual image anymore.
Look I know anything new on this thread is of a more recent storm but I just have to say, the Typhoon Face is one of the best things I've seen today.

Nah no reason a photo should be excluded just because it's from the 60s. Great post!

Huricane map:
It shows the locations, ans tracks of each recorded hurricane and tropical storm since the mid 1800s (as viewed from the south pole)
EPAC is @ one o' clock.
When viewed in aggregate, the hurricanes appear to coalesce into a single great hurricane eye.
