A small area of disturbed weather well out in front of Isaac developed last night and has moved through the Florida Straits. Good concentration of convection with this disturbance. Key West radar also shows some rotation within that convection just off the northern coast of Cuba. The models seemingly did not pick up on this feature which has been dumping copious rain down in the Keys overnight.
This feature may be having some type of interaction with Isaac. Very Interesting to point out this feature to watch during the course of today.

Is it possibly this feature that was tracked at least as far as the Leeward Islands before all eyes turned to Isaac?

Here is an excerpt from the Key West NWS discussion this morning regarding this disturbance.
............................
IN THE WATER VAPOR IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A VORT MAX FORMING OVER THE
FLORIDA STRAITS THAT COULD HAVE SOME IMPACT ON ISSAC AT LEAST IN THE
SHORT TERM.
ALSO...THIS FEATURE MAY HAVE BEEN THE CULPRIT FOR THE COLD
POOL ALOFT PRODUCING 40 TO 45 KNOTS WINDS ACROSS THE STRATOFORM RAIN
SHIELD OVER THE KEY ISLAND CHAIN AND COASTAL WATERS BEFORE MIDNIGHT.
FROM A RECENT ASCAT SATELLITE PASS THE WINDS ON THE SOUTHEASTERN EDGE
OF THE STORM ARE QUITE LIGHT...POSSIBLY DUE TO THE DOWN SLOPING WINDS
CUTTING OFF THE INFLOW TO THAT AREA OF ISSAC. THE INTERACTION OF
THESE MESOSCALE FEATURES ON THE SYNOPTIC SCALE ISSAC ARE GOING TO BE
THE KEY IN THE EVOLUTION OF ISSAC AS THE STORM CROSSES OVER THE NORTH
EDGE OF THE LAND MASS...HAITI AND CUBA.

This is Isaac's assistant announcing that Isaac will follow shortly
But all kidding aside, copous amount of moisture being pulled in from the ULL north FL, the outflow of Isaac is right on top of this vort max and with UL trough just west of this disturbance it is getting great UL divergence.

This feature really looks pretty good this morning NDG. I have been following it closely since last bight when it moved through the Keys. I think this vort is definitely playing a pivotal role currently along with the trough in the GOM in tugging Isaac on a N/NW motion. That allowed Isaac's center to shoot through the gap between Haiti and Eastern Cuba.

Re: Disturbed area in the Florida Straits
Will this disturbed area become part of Isaac or travel into the Gulf and become an invest? I see a bit of rotation over Western Cuba, not much
Loop below shows it.

Re: Disturbed area in the Florida Straits
This is being talked about in the general Isaac thread. It is a vort max which has popped up. It was progged by the NAM a few days ago as moderator Aric Dunn pointed out earlier this morning.

Ahh, I did not notice the NAM picking up on this feature. I am like most who seldom look at the NAM model for tropical analysis. But, thanks for pointing that out.
