Isaac Preparations and Observations - N Gulf (AL, MS, LA, TX

#1 Postby MiamiensisWx » Sat Aug 25, 2012 11:25 pm

I think a separate Gulf thread is warranted as the other thread is for the FL peninsula and the islands...people really need a heads-up early.

From my post in the FL/islands thread:

I almost think we should start a separate thread for LA/MS/AL/TX...particularly the first two states...given the probability that the NHC cone will continue to shift and therefore people may not take the threat seriously if the cone does not immediately reflect the evolving models by shifting over their area. I think all of us really want to avoid a situation like Katrina and I would hope that this board may serve as a conduit with which to spread preparedness NOW for what may be a very serious situation. Mods, thoughts? Thank you for all your hard work!

Moderators, feel free to make this a prominent sticky for our Gulf residents...thanks!

Filled up all my gas cans yesterday afternoon based on the model trends, and glad I did so before the hurricane watch got posted.

My internet is through Comcast which will go down if the power goes off. Does anyone have a suggestion of a good dial up (phone line) provider I can sign up with for a month.

I've heard Netzero still offers dialup at reasonable prices. If you have a laptop you might also consider a prepaid mobile broadband card.

The low-lying areas where flooding typically occurs include West Beach, Fort Morgan and some of the RV Parks , city officials said.

My parents have Netzero, and it works for getting on here, Facebook, NWS/NHC. It takes a bit to load, but it works by golly! It's better to use the mobile sites (less bandwidth to try to load), but it'll load the main web pages as well. I can even see the radar loops on it, but those take a whileee to load...much better for still images.

What is his size compared to an "average" TS? I am in NE Florida, after 3 days of sun, now windy, rain forecast through tomorrow. I know Andrew sent us nothing but a breeze; is Isaac big enough to impact NE Florida?

Governor Bentley is also ordering a mandatory evacuation beginning at 8:00 Monday morning for Zones 1 and 2 in bothMobile and Baldwin Counties.

In Baldwin County: Zones 1 and 2 include all areas south of U.S. Highway 98 and areas on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay that are South of Interstate 10 and west of U.S. Highway 98. Additionally, all people living in proximity to the Fish, Styx, Blackwater, and Perdido Rivers should evacuate. Also, all people living in manufactured homes, and those living in low-lying, flood-prone areas should evacuate.

In Mobile County: Zones 1 and 2 include areas south of Interstate 10 and those areas that are north of I-10 and east of I-65 and east of U.S. 43. Also, all people living in manufactured homes, and those living in low-lying, flood-prone areas should evacuate.
