Went all the way to August 17th in a below normal hurricane season to get the first named storm in 1992....who could have imagined what happened a week later...

TROPICAL STORM ANDREW ADVISORY NUMBER 3

....FIRST TROPICAL STORM OF THE SEASON FORMS IN TROPICAL ATLANTIC...

SATELLITE PICTURES INDICATE THAT THE DEPRESSION IN THE TROPICAL
ATLANTIC HAS STRENGTHENED DURING THE MORNING AND IS NOW TROPICAL
STORM ANDREW.

ANDREW IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 25 MPH
...41 KM/HR...AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR
THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MPH... 65 KM/HR...AND
SOME GRADUAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

GERRISH

Even Andrew contended with shear in his trek across the atlantic...almost didn't make it 2 days after he formed

TROPICAL STORM ANDREW DISCUSSION NUMBER 12
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
5 PM EDT WED AUG 19 1992

POST RECONNAISSANCE SATELLITE PICTURES THIS AFTERNOON HAVE SHOWN ARC
CLOUDS WHICH MAY INDICATE 12 HOURS OR SO OF LITTLE CHANGE IN
STRENGTH. ACTUALLY... THE PULSATING SYSTEM STILL HAS TO GO THROUGH
ONE MORE NIGHT OF SOMEWHAT HOSTILE WINDS ALOFT. IF ANDREW IS NOT
TOO DAMAGED AFTER THAT... THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR STRENGTHENING FOR
THE REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST PERIOD.
