Re: 2016 ACE: ATL- 3.595 - EPAC - 9.0475 - WPAC - SHEM - 41.9125
The North Atlantic and EastCentral Pacific got to a quick start with the two anomalies in January.I guess both will stay that way unless the TC reports do some changes.

Updated the SHEM numbers and until this post is at 123.33 units and that is above the normal average year to date 2/22/16. By the way Tropical Cyclone WINSTON has more ACE units than the 2013 North Atlantic season. (43.3525 vs 29.61)

Post nino seasons tend to have a quiet start and overall slow season but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the WPAC takes the ACE crown again when all is said and done.

Quantity dominates bigtime over quality so far this 2016 North Atlantic season based on the poor ACE units with four named systems in the books. At least is ahead of WPAC but of course it wont last.

Re: 2016 ACE: ATL - 6.845 - EPAC - 9.0475 - WPAC - 0 - SHEM - 209.132
Some discussion about the possibility of low global ACE this year began over here, so I figured I'd try to steer it over towards this thread since it is probably a more appropriate place for the discussion. The dearth of activity in the Pacific basins certainly seems to portend a down ACE year.
