Maybe this could be in an older re-analysis thread, but here is an interesting article that discusses HURDAT and the re-analysis project. A lot of us already know some details, but this article also explains things such as why the project was moving faster for a while than it is these days. They also hope to have 1956-1960 complete before the hurricane season begins.
