Yep, second highest since 1970 is 143.5925 from WPac July 2002, which we have already passed. The largest 31 day period I am aware of is also from NAtl 2004 with 176.275 units of ACE from August 27 to September 26, so that could be another one to keep an eye on.

Damn. All we need is 20ish more to hit 200. That could happen this week and also we look to break the all time monthly record. 2017 has turned into a big dog season.

We're probably beating the monthly record this UTC day (September 25th).

Yep, NAtl September 2004 with 154.9 units of ACE. That's the global monthly record, by the way.

I did a quick calculation via Tropical Atlantic and it looks like we're only an advisory cycle or two away from beating that now, and with five days left in the month.

And that's without adjusting for the fact that both Jose and Lee may have been stronger than estimated at their peaks.

Maria at 39.9 on the real-time tracker. If she (or Jose) doesn't get bumped down any on the best track, we're sure to have three 40+ this year now, which has never happened in the satellite era. That all three were in the same MONTH is jaw-dropping.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Has there ever been a year where BOTH the Atlantic and EPAC outperformed the WPAC in ACE? or in storm activity?
