Who will take over the role at the NHC? I nominate Jonathan Belles.

Leaving NHC is one thing. Going 'there' .... :headbangwall:

As far as a replacement, I nominate wxman57. Texas could use the cool down.

Good idea. I might be able to control the climate of the entire U.S. from there...

I don't know who has applied for the job. Chris Landsea might be a good choice. James Franklin probably applied. Probably not Lix. Perhaps the new director will be announced at the National Hurricane Conference April 17-20. I'll be there chairing one RAP session.

Forget wxman57. I don't want 90+-degree weather year-round.

I second Jonathan Belles!

Well, it aopparently looks like Knabb missed the lights and cameras of the TWC from his fist go round there. Well, it will be good to see him back teaming up with Norcross for the upcoming hurricane season .

Why would he leave a nice cushy job as Director of the NHC and go back to TWC when I feel its a downgrade unless its a form of retirement

I don't think that the Director of the NHC is a "nice cushy job". I'm sure it is a very high-stress job at times. Lots of pressure. Working at TWC would be easier, and I'll bet that the pay is better.

likely a MAJOR pay raise.

Max Mayfield received more than a 200% raise to leave NHC for a local station last decade

While most on-air meteorologists don't get extremely high pay, high-level Chief Meteorologists (which they are essentially, albeit specialized) usually get over 200K, sometimes around 500K.

Rick stated he wanted more time with his family. His son is 11 years old if I remember correctly. As NHC Director there is A LOT OF TRAVELING required, like the Hurricane Awareness Tour, which is about two weeks long. And as others have stated, I imagine he got a huge raise to go back to TWC. Interestingly, there was little if any talk at the National Tropical Weather Conference about who will replace him even with some of the possible candidates here and the last 3 NHC directors here also.
