Small disturbance off SW La coast
Showed a slight twist this morning. See if it persists. We are getting to that time of year and it is in a climatologically favored area.

Re: Small disturbance off SW La coast
That area was the tail end of an upper level cold front.
Sometimes those work their way down to the surface but just as often they dissipate.
There is an upper level low off the east coast of Florida that would tend to provide shear from the north over the area.
I don't have the bandwidth at the moment to look any closer.

Finally someone posted about this large mess. I checked that buoy by Galveston and it has dropped over the past hour or two. The shear looks to be really fast, it's actually helping with our HEAT! Turn it down Mr. wxman57 now darn it

Just a upper level trough marching westward, nothing at the surface, enjoy the extra clouds.

Off the topic but all that African dust that is clearly seen on the visible loop over the southern GOM and western Caribbean is forecasted to move over Texas and parts of LA during the next couple of days.

Re: Small disturbance off SW La coast
There was a ship report of a surface pressure at 29.87 south of Grand Isle.
Usually when the pressure Yo yo's down into the 29.70's there is some kind of circulation, but it depends on the background pressure.

Larger area of northern Gulf of Mexico showing effects of "troughiness".

Re: Small disturbance off SW La coast
Very distinct boundary apparent in Northern Gulf. Drier air and higher pressure to the north and upper low and moist air to the south.

Re: Small disturbance off SW La coast
If y'all close your eyes and wish hard enough might make a system pop up. Seriously though next weekend COULD be the time to watch the gulf for POSSIBLY some development. GFS is showing a fairly strong front clearing the states and pushing all the way out into the gulf next weekend and if it does come to fruition, systems have developed on the tail end of fronts stalled out in the gulf. But of course we are talking a week out and more importantly a week out with the gfs.
