Tropical wave in the central Atlantic (along 43W)

#1 Postby colbroe » Tue Aug 22, 2017 9:38 am

A tropical wave extends from 24N29W to 10N32W moving W at 15-20
kt. A 1011 mb low pressure precedes the wave centered near
12N38W. Scattered moderate convection is from 09N-14N between
25W-33W. This wave in a moist area based on TPW imagery and has a
well pronounced 700 mb trough.

A tropical wave extends from 15N31W to 24N27W moving W at 15-20
kt. The wave coincides with an amplified 700 mb between 23W-37W
with a maximum in 850 mb relative vorticity to the immediate west
of the wave axis that remains largely associated with a 1012 mb
low centered near 15N32W. Scattered moderate convection is from
11N-16N between 25W-31W.

It is off Africa and looks good.....seems to be sustaining well. The wave just ahead of it almost kinda looks like it's taking out the garbage in terms of clearing out some of the dry air and shear.

Based on the locations provided in the previous posts, the lead wave is what this thread is actually about.

A tropical wave extends from 23N33W to a 1011 mb low within the
monsoon trough located near 18N35W to 10N36W, moving W at 15 kt.
Satellite imagery indicates a large area of cloudiness in
association with this wave, but convection is limited. This wave
remains in a very moist area based on TPW imagery and has a well
pronounced 700 mb trough.

This one seems to be coming to life a little bit, while the one behind it I mistakenly mentioned above has fallen off somewhat. Interesting. Given the time of year, seems unlikely that something wouldn't become of at least one of these, even if development doesn't happen until closer in.

A tropical wave extends from 11N40W to 19N44W moving W around 10
kt. A weak 1010 mb low is analyzed along the wave axis near 14N43W
and is providing focus for scattered moderate and isolated strong
convection within 30 nm of the low center. The wave coincides
with amplified 700 mb troughing.

Just for grins, if you get a chance, check out a visible satellite loop centered near that weak low. It's elongated from WNW to ESE, with almost no convection, except for a persistent lone toot right over the vort center all day.
