Intense extratropical cyclone in the far North Atlantic

#1 Postby WeatherGuesser » Sat Oct 21, 2017 8:19 pm

This isn't tropics, but I don't know where to put it since we don't have a section for the Labrador Sea.

I know it isn't a cyclone as such, but it sure looks circular.

Typical extratropical cyclone...Nothing to see there. We get over 50 cyclones like these for winter months every year.

That's a very intense extratropical - almost polar - low. I know models consistently had the pressure around 940.

It's an extratropical low currently being analyzed at 948 mbar. Gales expand through much of the far northern Atlantic.

Looked better than Ophelia did on arrival in Ireland. It just stood out like a sore thumb when I first saw it.

I tried to scale these as equally as I could. Ex-Ophelia is on the left, obviously. Impressive XTCs

I swear that's wrapped up to the point there could almost be an eye if we had a better viewing angle. Any word on winds?

Looking at G Earth it doesn't look like much this morning. All opened up and spread out.

But now I see something in Hudson Bay, no where near as remarkable however.

ASCAT has shown at least 50KT winds, however hurricane force looks like a cinch to me.
