How favorable is the BoB right now?

The southern and central parts of the BoB are favorable to support TC formation/development. However, land interaction with Myanmar will be a hindrance/limiting factor with this system.

Another favorable pulse of the MJO will move through the Indian ocean this first half of November.
Global models are already indicating that the NIO and SIO will get busy on the coming days.

2018 was an above average season for the NIO. There were seven named storms:
SAGAR
MEKUNU
DAYE
LUBAN
TITLI
GAJA
PHETHAI

The back to back Arabian Sea systems in May—Sagar and Mekunu—were definitely the highlights of the season.

Compact TS Sagar over the western Gulf of Aden, a very rare occurrence (last time this happened was in 1984):

Cat 3 Cyclone Mekunu nearing landfall over the Arabian Peninsula, becoming one of the strongest to strike the region:

Almost forgot about this, another highlight of this year. Wow, what a season this was!
