Re: 2018 ACE: NATL - 17.5 - EPAC - 137.9 - WPAC - 136.7 - NIO - 11.5

After 00Z today, I'm at 103.825 ACE for August in the EPac. As far as I know, this is the highest ACE in a single month for the basin, and only the second 100 ACE month the EPac has had (after July 1978's 100.59).

*EDIT: This is incorrect, as September 1992 had 112.1275 units, which is the basin monthly record. That was Iniki's month, ironically enough.

:uarrow: Wow,incredible performance by EPac in August breaking records for a month. And we can see more developments in the basin before the month closes to add some more.

Lane could still add another ~5 units. with about a week and some days left in August. Activity is forecast by guidance in the EPAC so maybe this can be broken.

Yup incredible performance by the EPAC. Will be even more impressive if they can manage to beat the WPAC for the 1st time ever.

Seems like the WPAC despite the monster ACE from Hector and Lane is still not far behind.

Just to show how active the WPAC is...

We'll see at the end...

EPAC looks like it may add another long tracker (~25-30+ units) currently circled other systems not included.

Both Norman in EPac and JEBI in WPac are poised to get plenty of ACE units as the forecasts are for both to be major canes.

The upcoming systems in the Atlantic should produce some ACE, but probably not enough to get the basin back above average.

Think we'll come close to the record with two hurricanes spinning for the last three days?

We're already there. August 29th closes with 113.255 units for the month with two more days to stretch the record.

WPac catching up, but the EPac has a couple of majors coming---which could catapult 2018 into the 200 club.

Florence should bring some units to the Atlantic ACE.

EPac reached 170.1 ACE units as of 21:00 UTC and there will be more to come as Norman and Olivia should get much more.

Atlantic reached 30+ ACE units and is poised to get much more with Florence and other two prospects behind. If that happens, the basin will get to normal status but we will see down the road. EPac will reach 200 units shortly.

That would bring it to roughly half of the minimum "near normal" point by the peak even if the other two haven't developed yet.

WPac will get a ton of ACE as MANGKHUT is poised to be a very strong Typhoon. Also North Atlantic will get much more with Florence and the other two systems and EPac continues to add to the 200+ units.
