Fish quiet threads too. Latest GFS continues to show a significant cane recurving over the Central subtropical Atlantic.

But not much commentary here :D

Many make the token “thankfully it’s out to sea” type post but I’d bet a good amount of money that the huge majority of US posters want to see the US landfall. It’s ok, because rooting for it doesn’t change the track or make it his or her fault.

And "we" had thought that there was not going to be much of a CV season this year because of how "cold" the MDR was.

El Niño has failed to show up, & it warmed to avg. Looking pretty different now. Think an average CV season is reasonable

ugh i hated that narrative that was being thrown around, it was especially bad on wxtwitter. yes the MDR was cooler than average, but it was never really cold. I just feel as if it gave many people the false idea that this season wouldn't really see the long track storms we had last season...and look where we are now - likely going to have a strong Cape Verde based hurricane in just a few days.

Colder SST's in the Atlantic seem to be overlooked and overhyped. Usually by peak season the majority of the Atlantic Basin is warm enough to support tropical development.

What’s the significance of this potential storm’s stall in the central Atlantic on the 18z gfs? It wasn’t as prevalent in the 12z or 6z.

Ridge builds in stronger on the 18z when compared to the 00z.

00z GFS again intensifies it to a major cane and continues with the recurving.

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
200 AM EDT Thu Aug 30 2018

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Disorganized showers and thunderstorms moving off the coast of
Senegal are associated with a strong tropical wave and broad area
of low pressure. A more well-defined low pressure system is
forecast to form between Senegal and the Cabo Verde Islands later
today after the tropical wave moves offshore over the far eastern
Atlantic Ocean, and the low is likely to become a tropical
depression by the weekend while moving westward or west-
northwestward at about 15 mph. This system is expected to bring
heavy rains and gusty winds to the Cabo Verde Islands on Friday and
Saturday, and interests on the islands should monitor the progress
of this disturbance.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.

Euro and CMC don't seem keen on too much intensification, neither appear to bring it to hurricane intensity.

I personally see no reason why this wouldn’t become a hurricane. The euro doesn’t always pick up on these MDR systems too well.
