ANOTHER non-tropical low forecasted to form near the Azores

#1 Postby galaxy401 » Sun Sep 23, 2018 12:50 am

It appears it's related to the front that spawned 90L. Could the remains of Florence spawn three TCs?!

It looks like the system the models were showing becoming subtropical, extratropical, and tropical again, is actually two systems--90L and the system that will absorb it.

Based on some of the model guidance I've been seeing it seems like the developing non-tropical low and Leslie merger will be dominated by Leslie. If that's the case, the National Hurricane Center might be looking to reevaluate Leslie as a continuous system that takes the reigns with Wednesday's merged cyclone, and eliminate the Azores AOI region on the tropical weather outlooks if the working assumption is that it's a single continuously tracked system.

8 PM TWO:

Subtropical Storm Leslie is expected to become post-tropical
Tuesday night or Wednesday after it merges with a cold front over
the central Atlantic. After that time, Leslie could reacquire some
subtropical or tropical characteristics by the end of the week as
it meanders over the central Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

I think it’s time to merge this with the Leslie discussion thread
