Since Lorenzo seems poised to pump out some ACE, I think that all it would take for the NAtl to beat the WPac this year in ACE would be the WPac continuing its lackluster performance and a late season monster in the W. Caribbean. Of course, it is unlikely for the NAtl to produce more ACE than the WPac even in a season like this, and the WPac is known for big late season super typhoons even in its down years.

Up to 4th now at 39.42 vs 1992's 39.38. Here's all NIO seasons sorted by ACE from 1972 to now (n = 48).

I think it may be possible that Lorenzo could push the Atlantic over the WPAC if it does end up with more than 30 ACE.

North Atlantic has surpassed the EPAC thanks to Lorenzo.

NAtl has just passed the EPac using my numbers too. The WPac may hold the NAtl off though with 91W about to develop. Guidance is alluding that it may become rather strong as it approaches the Ryukyus.

Even in the slowest WPAC season, the WPAC can reign.

With Mitag expected to intensify quickly to major status, it's now looking less likely that the Atlantic surpasses WPac in ACE even momentarily.

Who would had thought 3 months ago that the NATL was going to be ahead in ACE of the EPAC by this time. Not many.

Would hardly say bathwater, SSTs are around 27C. Should be a major for maybe another day and a hurricane for maybe three more on top of that.

Lorenzo's TIKE is now up to almost 1800 TJ as of 00Z, which puts it as the most in the NAtl this year. In fact, only two NH systems rank above it right now: the WPac's monsoon trough twins of Lekima and Krosa. As about 2000 TJ, Lorenzo is probably gunning down Lekima soon, but is still less than half way to Krosa's nearly 4000 TJ total.

The WPac is about to start distancing itself from the other basins a little.
