GOES-17 West is now operational

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Feb 12, 2019 11:17 am

Great news that finnally after many tests GOES 17 West is now operational. Now we will have a great view of the Pacific Ocean Alaska,Hawaii and the West part of NorthAmerica.

Today, GOES-17, the second of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation geostationary weather satellites, has completed its checkout phase and is now operating in the GOES West position, providing faster, more accurate, and more detailed observations used by National Weather Service forecasters to predict Pacific storm systems, severe storms, fog, wildfires, and other environmental dangers.

Just to note as well that Levi has a bunch of imagery from GOES-17 on tropical tidbits in the satellite section, including floaters for South Pacific invests! There's a couple invest floaters up on there now. I like to track in the southern hemisphere while it's winter up here in the Midwest where I am, so for anyone else who tracks in the S.Hem, you may want to go check it out.
