I would look for FB live or a stream that they can have.

Where may be the best pages or channels to look? Sorry I’ve never seen a live conference before.

So Imelda, Isaias, and Sally stays. I'm actually a little surprised Sally wasn't retired but I suppose the deaths weren't that many.

RIP to the entire Greek Alphabet. Wonder what will replace it.

EDIT: I see the new list that has replaced it. I knew it was about to be announced shortly.

Not too surprised about Isaias and Sally, as I knew they were borderline cases. Imelda was forgotten in time so I expected it to stay.

Dorian and Laura were obvious.

Wait where did y'all find this out!?

Edit: NVM found it.
So my preferred choice of Luna replacing Laura didn’t happen but it still found it’s way into the new Pacific auxiliary so that counts for something.

I’m very surprised Isaias and Sally are staying. Fun times tracking the next Isaias in 2026.

I guess we can consider Delta and Zeta retired since the entire Greek alphabet got kicked out?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Yeah some of those are very weird names that I’ve never even heard of. I woulda done one of more common names but it’s not like we’ll see these often. Maybe once every 20 years or so. Most seem like those weird names milennial parents come up with that I can’t tell if it’s a dudes name or a girls name

Although i already got bad feelings about hurricane Dexter. That sounds like one that’s gonna follow Dean/Dorian

Also it looks like 10 billion may be the new US benchmark if Isaias Imelda Sally Delta and Zeta didn’t get canned. Fair enough considering the string of blockbuster 15bil+ storms lately (Matthew, Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence, Michael, Laura)

Well, I'm a bit surprised by what stayed, but certainly not by what went name-wise. Should be interesting to see what sort of auxiliary list they put together, though it doesn't necessarily solve the issue of starting with one letter, allowing for I names to be drained out of the pool.

Regardless, with this decision, Sally at $7.3 billion, Imelda at $5.0 billion, Isaias at $4.8 billion, Zeta at $3.6 billion, and Delta at $3.0 billion become the costliest, second-costliest, third-costliest, fifth-costliest, and seventh-costliest storms to not be retired.

I don’t mind the increased diversity in terms of name origins, but some of these names (ex: Braylen) seem really trendy millennial, and seem like they’d be dated really soon. (Though to be fair IMO Rebekah seems like a product of the 90s when it was added.)

One suggestion my boy at work just said was they shoulda used names of Greek and Roman gods for the aux list. Those would command fear and make people taje is seriously. Like Hurricane Hades you get out of the way of.

I’m with you on the millennial names though. Braylen which I guess is a guys name... sounds like a blonde 16 year old girl with a moderately popular tik tok account. (I’m 25 before people accuse me of being old school)

I knew Isaias and Imelda stood virtually no chance at getting axed. I thought there was at least a little possibility that Sally would avoid retirement after all the rapid-fire storms that came through the Gulf last season and that ended up being so.
As years go by and should buildup of property continue along the coasts, alongside inflation, we have to remember monetary totals are going to reach the billion numbers alot more often. Death and overall destruction, as well as memorability will and should be the deciding factors for retirement.

Joining only Emily. Although I don’t think portugal has a seat at the WMO hurricane committee despite the azores being hurricane prone. Other than the Azores, I don’t think a storm would be retired for sinking a ship out in the open sea

Carol 1953, Esther, and Edith have also joined that chat. (Quite a few Cat. 5 “E” names to not get retired lol)
Also that makes Lorenzo the first male Cat. 5 to not get retired!

Anyways Portugal does I believe as there were member reports submitted for this session, however I only remember them discussing 2020 and SS Alpha.

Theoretically, we could still see the name Delta be used to replace a retired D name in the future. Same with Zeta, if we used Z names. So it's technically possible but very unlikely.

I'm a little surprised they used I names for the auxillary lists but not QUXYZ names.

Guess so? I'm actually wondering why they singled out Eta and Iota for retirement if the whole Greek alphabet was going to get axed anyway and in a sense "retired." Maybe It's more official this way or something?

I actually don't mind having Isaias on the list anymore. I got pretty good at pronouncing it. I just hope I still remember how in 2026. 8-)

Probably since those are special cases of twin cat 4s hitting the same place 2 weeks apart.

Since it seems like 10 billion in damage is the new US retirement threshold, it seems like the area/intensity a storm hits at to be trashed just narrowed. For a cat 2 for example (using Sally as an example) it would need to hit
Houston/Galveston, NOLA, Tampa to Naples, Miami to Palm Beach, Jax, Charleston, Chesapeake bay, NJ to Nassau County, Westerly to Martha’s Vineyard
