if we look at the Euro the last 4 runs. then something coming out of the NW carrib into the eastern gulf in the next 3 days will need to be watched.

NW carrib now has the large MLC from yesterday in the bay of campeche and a wave/trough with lots of divergence aloft.

after that..

the GFS is persistant with the large GYRE situation .. for which it does pretty well with.. so if not in the next week then probably in the next 3 weeks.

Oops I just missed this by minutes. I'd also go with June 1 - 10 with some CAG-origin system in the W. Carib. or Gulf.

Well I was off by five days and location, thought the CAG would be the next catalyst but I guess not!

Congrats to the 13% of people who actually got it right. The 2020 season looks like it’s shaping up to be full of surprises.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I guessed May 21-31 a little over a week ago, but I was mostly banking on the development of the upper-level low that's now southeast of Bermuda. About a week ago there was a moisture plume in the western Caribbean, and I had a feeling that whatever developed into Bertha would be tapping into that. Mesoscale Bertha this morning in the Carolinas didn't seem likely until it had the blessing of the mesoscale guidance beginning two days ago.
