August still may not be a complete bust if the lid comes off the third or fourth week.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Certainly happened last year with the Chantal-Dorian-Erin combo in only a few days after August 20th

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

I still think 5 is possible thanks to maybe the area off Georgia, 95L, and a nice trio of waves off the African coast towards the end of the month.

I went with 4 but starting to think only 2-3 depending on when and how quickly the lid comes off. Originally folks were saying around the 15th-20th is when that would happen but it looks like it might not happen until the 25th or so now.

I’m starting to think 4 is more likely: Josephine from TD11, then a bit of a break until the 20-25th where we get three new storms before the month ends, starting the season’s peak of hyperactivity.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

First storm on the 4th from 94L? -> BUST!
2nd storm on the 13th? At least I got the date right.
3 more to go...

5 seems to be looking possible again. We’ve already had Josephine and Kyle, there’s a good chance of getting Laura and Marco from 97L and 98L, and the Euro model/ensembles are suggesting another MDR system could form sometime next week.

I voted four and was thinking last week before Kyle maybe three would be a little more likely, but now I'm wondering if four is too low lol

FireRat wrote:4 is my best guess, and the last one, Marco perhaps, could be the first major of 2020 and last into September.

Of course, given the year, it could be crazier but I'll go with 4 (excluding any borderline TDs that steal names, lol). FOUR quality systems...1 TS, 2 H, 1 MH. That's the Rat's take.

I'm not one who normally toots their own horn, but yeah I'm also feeling good about the 4 storms still, lol. The above is what I thought back on August 1.

Looks like we got 2 TS instead of 1, now lets see if 97L and 98L become named down the road and we get 2 H's out of them (hopefully not when being near land). If we get 3 more systems from now thru 8/31, then Kyle was prob that "name stealer" I was thinking of. Josephine wasn't much quality either but did last longer at least

I'd say Laura and Marco by month's end is still looking very likely!
