What name will the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season end on?

#1 Postby CyclonicFury » Fri Sep 18, 2020 1:50 pm

Now that we've reached the Greek alphabet (and it seems near definite that Beta will get named later today), the question is, how deep into the Greek Alphabet will we get? I'm thinking Eta or Theta.

Mods, can you please create a poll?

Hell, at this pace, we may get through the whole Greek list on this poll LOL.....

Why not as insane as this season has turned out to be. So, I voted Mu

I went with Iota which will put the named storm total at thirty. Would like to see Kappa, too bad Omega is the last name on the Greek Alphabet.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but can this poll be remade with more names???
We are on too much of a roll with another two and a half months of hurricane season left, that I find it hard to believe we will end at only Eta, Theta, or Iota.

I am feeling you too about this. I agree with you. The mojo ,or whatever is going on out there in the North Atlantic basin this season, I am riding it to the max! Just insane!

I added more greek names to the poll options and that caused the poll to erase those who voted already so vote again.

I went with Pi, gotta have Pi by the end. Imagine everyone having to call a serious storm that  .

I want to at least get to the two letter names. Pi, Mu, and Omnicron are probably my favorites from that poll list (I forgot the others).

If we have only one more storm in September after Beta, then 7 in October and 1 in November, that’ll get us to 32 NS and Lambda.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Considering we're 6 names ahead of 2005 at this point (Rita formed today in 2005) and playing it safe by saying we'll have 1 less storm than 2005 had from now on, I end up at Lambda. But I wouldn't be surprised if we might even have more in the end. What a crazy season. Even though it likely won't happen, hurricane Pi or hurricane Omega do sound awesome.

I can just imagine some of the future Cyclone Discussion 1-liners that we'll hear.....

Tropical Storm Mu thrashes Jamaican grasslands
South Florida residents faced with Pi
Gamma rays, as photographed within the storm's eye

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.
