Tropical Cyclone TC24S

#1 Postby Aslkahuna » Sat Mar 08, 2003 6:16 pm

Tropical Cyclone TC24S has formed 150 N of Darwin Australia with winds
of 25kt. The system is moving N at 3 kt and is expected to turn to the east
and intensify to 45kt over the next 48 hours. The latest satellite imagery shows a convective mass with some degree of turning but no real banding or organization at this time.

FWIW, Climatology shows that for the Southern Hemisphere we usually see 24 Tropical Cyclones by the END of March so we are definitely running a bit abouve average in numbers right now.

Tropical Cyclone TC24S (Craig) is located 120 NM N of Darwin with winds
of 30kt. It is moving East and is expected to turn ESE and intensify to 50kt in 48 hours. However, the latest satellite imagery is unimpressive and proximity to land could inhibit development.

Tropical Cyclone TC24S (Craig) is located 60 NNE of Darwin with winds of 35kt. The storm is expected to be moving over land through the next 48 hours so little or no development is expected until it reemerges over water in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Tropical Cyclone TC24S (Craig) is over land 230 E of Darwin with winds of 35kt. It is moving ESE at 10 kt and is expected to continue on that track with little change in intensity as it moves across the Gulf of Carpentaria into Cape York Peninsula. The latest satellite imagery shows increased convection but little organization.

Tropical Cyclone TC24S (Craig) is located 220 WNW of Cairns with winds of 30kt. It is shearing apart with the mid and high level portions moving SE at 17kt while the ill defined LLCC is moving slowly. It is expected to dissipate in 24 hours. The latest satellite imagery shows little in the way of an indentifiable LLCC.
