After some research... I found the original Fujita scale. The scale we are used to today (F0-F6) is actually called the Fujita-Pearson Scale where Allen Pearson added more description to the original scale. Also, dropped were F7-F12, since the damage between F6 and F12 would look the same... a total mess.
Anyway... the original scale was to extend off the Beaufort Scale, a scale of 12 steps. F0 was to denote tornadoes below hurricane strength, or Forces 1-11 on the Beaufort Scale.
F0 - 40-72 mph
F1 - 73-112 mph
F2 - 113-157 mph
F3 - 158-206 mph
F4 - 207-260 mph
F5 - 261-318 mph
F6 - 319-379 mph
F7 - 380-440 mph
F8 - 441-506 mph
F9 - 507-579 mph
F10 - 577-651 mph
F11 - 652-731 mph
F12 - 732 mph - Mach 1
Theoreticaly, could there be a Cat 6?
