Site Problems
I'm sure many of you have noticed extremely slow response times and inablility to access the site on occasion. These problems are due to another site on the same server as well as a general server problem that they can't seem to get resolved. I requested that our site be moved to a new server and that should happen today. When they move the site it will be down for approximately 1 hours. Sorry for the inconvience but we have to get the site on a better server.
Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the status report.
BTW, you guys did the same thing to a few sites last year.
When Lili was coming in, the Model Map Page was getting crushed. This coincided around the 9/11 anniversary. WREL has Silent Night 9/11 and several other topic songs on our server. Between the Hurricane Page, the Model Maps and the mp3 downloads, we started creeping and choked out another site on our box. They were unamused and moved in December so we are flying solo.

didn't mean "you guys" as in this site. Meant all the folks who visit the wx boards and apparently hit wrel.com on the same days, effectively choking out anyone else behind that router. Think we've solved that problem and welcome the traffic.

Building a server really isn't all that much $$$. The expense comes after that. We opted to get a dedicated box through alabanza in Baltimore, with a mirror in TX. Here at WREL, it runs in the vicinity of $250/month, but that's also a ton of bandwidth. This approximate figure presumes there is a dedicated 'puter and high speed connectivity. Lots of price variations based on what's installed, what you run on it and how much bandwidth is consumed.
hope it helps.
