Martin County

#1 Postby BPJR051 » Sat Oct 22, 2005 7:50 pm

Looks like Martin County could get the eye of another hurricane. Like last year, I will be able to give real time updates from within the Martin County EOC. Will be reporting there early Monday morning. Good luck to all you Treasure Coast folks. Here we go again!

 Can"t believe it! The storm gods really have a thing for the St. Lucie inlet. At least the drill is becomeing pretty routine. Can put up all the shutters in about 2 hours now. Don't even have to think about which ones go where. Good luck to everyone!

I was thnking about being on the south side of the storm with the possible projected path taking it across Lake Okeechobee. I wonder if the storm will get any extra help from the lake? You have to think that with the the storm moving SW to NE across the lake that Palm Beach, Broward and North Dade are going to get blasted. Something to ponder....

No, because the southern eyewall will be far worse than the northern.

I don't understand why we didn't recieve a hurricane warning like counties to our south when the track still shows the treasure coast with the eye tracking over us. Any thoughts?

Its because the hurricane force winds will come in a bit later. The remainining watch area on the east coast should be upgraded to a warning at 5 AM or 11 AM at the latest.

I think its because the south side of the storm will be much more intense.

Seems like buisness as usual here doesn't it? I just hope people are taking it serious. No reason not to be boarding up. I think the tornado threat is VERY real. Stay safe everyone.

Not in my neighborhood, everyone is taking this very serious. We all have shutters up and are as ready as we can be. I was just hoping to get by this year since I just got my house repaired from last year and put it on the market now it seems I may be right back where I started from. Its no fun making two house payments.

My house is under still under repair from last year also. I had a difficult time preparing my house with all of the construction going on. I see school is closed Monday and Tuesday. My kids are happy but since I'm a teacher I know that'll mean make-up days down the road! Have you seen the weather stations link at http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/fin ... uery=34983

The one on Floresta is close to my house. Good luck everyone.

Eric :)

Any idea what the winds would be in the Martin County area?

Landfall looks to be a CAT 2 near Naples but little indication of winds the otherside of Florida - Stteobite - http://www.skeetobiteweather.com/picser ... p?t=z&m=24
implies it would be a CAT 1. Anyone got any info - obiviously used to the usual disclaimer that hurricanes are quite unpredicatble and landfall and path are never dead certs!

11AM Update

#20 Postby BPJR051 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:38 am

Just left the 11:15 state conference call. Here in Martin County we can expect the tropical storm force winds to arrive around 0330 Monday morning. The hurricane winds will arrive around 0930 and last until 1430. Right now they project sustained winds at 96 mph and gusts to 120 mph. The event should be over by 1800 hours. Of course all this can change with the next advisory. The models show a shift south which would be good for us here.

The Melbourne NWS warned that the tornado threat will start around 2100 hours tonight with the leading feeder bands.
