Haiyan was a category 5 by our standards, one of the strongest storms many of us have ever witnessed.

Well, I have to admit when I saw the OP say there were no pictures of Category 5 damage I thought "well surely there are typhoon pictures because those get that strong more often..." then of course I guess someone answered that question.

It's too bad there were no chasers close by to the areas hit by the Cat 5 winds of Haiyan. That would have been a great opportunity. The live videos of Jeff Pietrowski in Harvey are probably the most impressive I have seen for a hurricane, and those were probably upper Cat 3.

Let me add another one - Cyclone Pam Defoliation / Destruction in Vanuatu taken by a pilot.

The Philippines had already seen 15+ category 5 landfalls over the last 60 years (there's already 4 cat 5 "frogs" since 2010) and it's still difficult to find those image and footages - just shows how rare those things are. It's not only about being at the right place & time - you also got to have that "Steel Cojones"
BTW, the footage taken by Jim Edds in Tacloban looks atleast Cat 3.

IRMA can add a lot of hurricane wind footages and damages here.
The best video that I have found so far is from Luriann Briggs out of British Virgin Island which showed the conditions during the front side, the eye part, and the violent back side.
