I can prove it

#1 Postby max » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:44 am

I can prove that Hurricane Katrina was a Cat. 4 when she made her first landfall in Empire, Louisiana.

That had sustain wind speeds of 140 mph down there.

Even the video proved it.

Katrina was a mid cat 3 with maximum sustained winds of 125mph.

Wait....don't lock it yet. If he can say he can prove it, I want to see what he has that the NHC doesn't. We may be on to something here :D

Max, there is really no way to prove it. According to the NHC (the ones that make the decisions), Katrina was a Cat. 3 at both landfalls.

That being said, however, it really was not the wind that was the issue, but instead it was the surge. If the surge had not been as bad as it was, then Katrina would likely have not been as horrible as she was.

You better come up with more than a link for proof and give a credible reply or this thread will be locked for stirring up a nest with no discussion..

This was written before the NHC downgrade.

Also, this is a product made by a local NWS office, not the NHC.

First, no 140mph wind was ever measured, nor anything anywhere near that. Second, the 140mph landfall was the operational value given at the time the storm made landfall, and upon further and more detailed/accurate analysis, it was determined to be a Cat 3. Third, that isn't from the NHC.

So let's see this binder . . .

Katrina went through an intense rapid weakening cycle just before making landfall. Katrina clearly looked very bad at landfall. Dry air got entrained into katrina and tore it to shreds.

It's a solid title that as my fellow mod said it has to be followed with solid data that has not been shown or known before. If no data that has been seen before is posted thread will be locked.
