On a record pace (number of storms)

#1 Postby JetMaxx » Wed Jul 16, 2003 11:04 pm

With Danny being upgraded tonight
(July 16th), we're now ahead of every year in recorded history....even 1933 and 1995 didn't have four named storms by mid-July.....right now we are on pace for a record breaking hurricane season (in numbers of storms) -- ***in 1997 T.S.Danny formed in the GOM on 7/17...but was the last named storm until September. This isn't an El Nino type season....so I wouldn't bet on a slow August/ September/ October this year.

FYI - the record for named storms by the end of July is five (1933, 1936, 1959, 1966, and 1995). We may have Erika in a few days....with almost two weeks still left to go until August 1st.

Very interesting! Yes, indeed, Tropical Storm Danny formed in the Gulf of Mexico on July 17th, 1997. Thank you for posting the information for all to see, Perry. :)

I agree. It'll be a heck of a season for names this year.
