Just Curious. But, before the storm how much was the insurance and how much did a beach house cost?

Pre-Katrina. A beach house in Pascagoula was roughly $400,000 - $800,000. For a 2 or 3 story house approx 3000-6000 sq ft. Insurance was around $5000-$8000 per year.

FYI: I am a Realtor.

Post Katrina. I just sold a 3000 sq ft home ($220,000) about 3 miles north of the gulf and the insurance was $4800. Yesterday our office closed an $80,000 house north of I-10 and the insurance was $2400.
