Thanks, artist, I was hoping someone would think of starting a thread for this. To bad there aren´t any more members in CA, Macrocane and I are both on the Pacific side and haven´t been affected so far, though the ball of rain is headed straight for us.

Si hay alguien en Honduras o Nicaragua que puede reportar sobre los daños ocasionados por Tormenta Tropical Matthew (Mateo), le invitamos a hacerlo aquí.

the translation wasn´t 100% grammatically correct, but very understandable. Not bad for an automatic translation.

Checking in from Placencia peninsula Belize, on google earth we're dead opposite Independence. Today was squally at times with bright sunshine in between seas state choppy early morning becoming calm to almost glass flat during the afternoon, has been dead calm no breeze/wind since approx 4pm, just starting to get some steady light rain its 8.19pm currently here, radar shows heavier rain coming in shortly. BZ Met at 6pm gave warning to expect heavy rains and winds around 35 kts in next 12-24hrs, heaviest rains to be in South & central areas upto 18" in the South, flash floods likely for low lying areas, particularly as watersheds already at maximum. We are prepared for possible power outages (which will affect our drinking water as its pumped from Independence to Placencia by electrical pump) as Belize doesn't even need a good storm just some well placed lightening strikes to knock power out for hours at time. So its back to the old days water in buckets & jugs, candels and kerosene lamps at the ready. Really glad I got my butane tank filled a few days ago. So if I don't suddenly post its more likely due to power out as my DSL modem requires electricity & I don't have a generator. Worry for those in Honduras as any heavy rains inevitably cause mudslides, if I hear any reports from Honduras will post them.

thanks so much for checking in and letting us know how you are doing. Be sure to check back in, if you do lose pwer, when you get it back. Those rain totals are awful. I hope they don't come true. Be safe and know we have you all in our thoughts and prayes here.

Alan- thanks for letting me know, glad it didn't do too badly! How are things for you?

If anyone knows of some local newspapers we can find on line, that would be really helpful as well.

surprisingly, we still haven´t gotten much rain here.
Infrared sat im. still shows a huge ball of convection about to cover all of Guatemala, so I´m expecting heavy rains later today.

I haven´t been able to find any reports from Honduras yet this morning. If anyone finds any info about rainfall or emergencies there, please report them.

In San Salvador we have completely cloudy skies right now but it's not raining, in the northern part of the country it has been raining all night, I will post some observations later today. Be safe everyone.

By the way the first news from Nicaragua say that no deaths or major damages occured, I hope they're right but I still think it's too early to tell, when Felix occured the true damages were only known a few days later.

Well from what you reported early on that is good news. But you are right. It is still very early and Matthew will slow down as time progresses and that is when the torrential rains will be occuring. Praying for all down there for sure.

alanstove and Macrocane - thanks for letting us know how things are going. Good to hear things are not too bad for you at this point.
I have found it hard to get up to date news from these areas as well as much of the caribbean islands during times like these.
Will look forward to your next reports.
BZSTORM, how are things there?
tireman4 have you heard from your family?
Our continued prayers to all.
Stay safe!

:darrow: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... 6778424899 :darrow: photos I posted this morning, right now we ave lull in rain and winds dropped quite abit, NEMO is warning everyone that fooding will occur more over next few days, schools have been opened as shelters for those ppl who live in low lying areas prone to flooding, I have some standing water in my yard which is good indication water table at max here,Placencia which is 3 miles from here is actually getting harder wave action (I'm in a bight which is like a small bay" waves are coming upto 15 feet higher than normal high tide mark in Placencia). A friend in Punta Negro Toledo says they have had constant hard rain but winds not heavy and no white caps "high rollers but no white caps ! water up 30 ft. but just foam kinda stuff ... ". Internet amazing thing were all updating each other with FB chat & photos in our areas. allot of people are mislead by the burst of convection on satellite thinking the center already crossed area hours ago, I'm guessing the center will be onland shortly if the 11am EST it was only 45miles from Monkey River. there is localized flooding in my area but this is more from water table being at max and high tide is around noon today. There are localized power outs in Belzie City and report of earlier this morning a house being blown down, seems the furthest north areas are getting it harder than we are in South. Will send more updates later

local radio just reported that reports from Guatemala that the rivers which feed into the Belize Mopan are at full flood with bridges washed out and they expect the waters from Guatemala to enter the mopan tonight and warning about flash floods in North country where Mopan runs. Reports from Placencia village are the sidewalk on the beach is under a few inches of water and many yards are flooded, same situation in Seine Bight village the lagoonside area where homes are built on filled mangrove areas are now flooded, drains put in with new road are full due to water supposed to drain into lagoon which is very high right now. Rivers in Toledo are flooding and low lying areas starting to flood, NEMO encouraging ppl to move to higher ground or shelters before night. Also GOB just declared all vessels to stay in port this included barges and ferries. All main ports Big Creek & Belzie City are closed until further notice, this is as off 10.24am. We just had another squall come through in Seine Bight, but nothing major.

Gosh, I hate to hear there is flooding already going on in places as well as power outages. I am glad the winds are not too bad, but the water can be as bad if not worse.
Keep us updated and know we have you all in our thoughts and prayers. Stay safe.

We have had light rain all morning here, but some parts of the country have had heavy rain all night, with several stations reported about 13cm already.

With the ground saturated and the rivers already running full from recent heavy rains, we are already seeing reports of landslides blocking roads and a few communities being evacuated because of flooding.

Here is a link to a local newspaper article: http://www.prensalibre.com/noticias/com ... 66004.html

So far there are no reports of deaths or major damages in Nicaragua and Honduras. I hope Guatemala makes out as good, but if the storm stalls over the area as predicted, it could get a lot worse.

wow, so 5 inches of rain so far! Mudslides are what really worry me for there, as well as all the flooding. I just wish the rain would stop already.
Thanks so much for the article and I am so glad to hear there have been no deaths reported.
Once again take care, and know we are thinking about you all.
