Some rather nasty little thunderstorms blowing in off of the ocean now, moving rapidly towards the NW at 40-50 mph. Rainfall rates up to 2" an hour in some! Several Severe tstorms warnings popping across eastern nc, winds gusting in the cell that just came over me to 35 mph. Also doppler showing rotation in a lot of these cells just offshore. Waterspouts moving ashore will be a problem i'm afraid. And a tornado warning just popped for a cell for Belhaven, in Hyde county, west side of Pamlico sound.

An FYI, if you go to http://WWW.WCTI12.com, go to the weather center, there is an interactive doppler radar feature that shows the severe storm icons and identifies what they are. Lets you control the radar information. A cool little toy for eastern NC weather.

Worked all night in this mess and came out relatively dry. Probably because I stayed inside or in my car all night. There wasn't much walking about unless you wanted to get soaked and a 12 hour shift is not the time to do that.
I was very surprised leaving the office after about a half hour that the wind had shifted and was blowing really hard out of the east/south east. I had read where it would but wasn't really expecting it quite like that.
No issues coming home down the main roads and relatively little flooding on the roadways. Ditches and peoples yards are another story. There are several areas in Wilmington that are having some major issues though.
And now, the wind keeps on blowing and especially gusting and according to the radar, the rain doesn't look like it will be stopping anytime soon. We had a few breaks overnight which was nice but I think were in for the long haul a little while longer.

I got home from work around 2:30 am, and found flooding nearly as bad as with hurricane Floyd and at levels I have only seen twice before (Isabel is the most recent.) Water level at my house was only about 2 feet lower than Floyd, but fortunately already going down. Bridge near my house had water flowing over it, but only a couple of inches.

Right now wind is howling as bad as many tropical storms and it's raining tree branches up to 4" thick here.

Since Monday, it's rained around 11" here: 5" on Monday, and 6" yesterday (Wed.)
