Itbayat Island aftermath aerials

#1 Postby beoumont » Sun Sep 18, 2016 12:45 pm

The shots on this webpage are supposedly from above Itbayat yesterday: the island that was embedded in the eye of an estimated 185 mph sustained wind super storm. Expanding the pictures I do see some stripped and downed trees, and some roof damage. I was expecting to see only a few structures left standing and a totally defoliated landscape; but most structures are still standing and many have grass roofs, apparently undisturbed. Maybe images that come in later from ground level will reveal more. http://interaksyon.com/article/132536/look--first-glimpse-of-itbayat-from-the-air-after-super-typhoon-ferdie

IMO, there is no way those are pictures from an area that suffered sustained 185 mph winds. I might believe 120-130 mph but not any higher. Has there been any type of confirmation of this?

When I posted the aerials that was the only press release to that date of photos from Itbayat. They were shot, according to the story, by a relief plane that could not land due to debris on the runway. I would guess there are other photos available from ground level by now. If you do an internet search and find some shots, I would like to see the website and photos as well; so please send me or post any URLS. I am in Vero Beach, and am now preoccupied with the possibility of Matthew either making a direct hit or nearby pass. Have to prepare, shop, etc; and everyone in town is already doing the same. Yea, I expected to see an island almost flattened.
