The pump at the 17th Street has now failed. The water will create a fishbowl. OMG There will be several feet of water in downtown and the French Quarter. This is soooo bad. I am listening to WWL-TV.

Did the Mayor just say that they never attempted to place the 3000 pounds sandbags? Is that what I heard?

Well, look at it like this, guys...it really can't get much worse than the worst case.

At sometime you just hit bottom and then you can't go anywhere but up.

I heard a discussion this afternoon that they had determined that sandbags wouldn't work. They were supposedly going to try filling cargo containers with sand and dirt and drop them. Looks like time ran out.

And I keep hearing in my mind Shepard Smith saying yesterday morning that the French Quarter had been spared and if you were planning to party in NO next weekend... it looks like the party is on!!

What a idiot.

Did anyone else hear him say that???

Yes, I saw it yesterday too, and it has been playing over and over in my mind all day long as the waters rise.

I heard the mayor said the qttempt to fix the levee failed which is different. live press conference on bqton rouge tv saying nothing about it.

doesn't really matter for me. I live on a high part of canal boulevard that was supposed to be relatively high in the worst case scenario. unfortunately, it didn't take into account a damn barge going thru the levee. so we are just waiting to see how bad it is.

I am hearing conflicting reports, NOLO.com says they are trucking in giant concrete barricades and more sandbags, MSNBC says they are sinking a grain barge to stop the flow of water from the lake into the canal. I dunno what to believe anymore.

NOLA.com is now reporting that the levee fix has failed and 12-15 feet of water will flood into Jefferson and Orleans parishes.

The same on wwltv.com

Even if the sandbags were delivered, they wouldn't have made a difference. Any person who researches these things understands that sandbags are good for keeping enough water back to pump seepage from a levee, but useless to fix a break.
