Whale Teeth Help Couple Recover from Ivan

#1 Postby CentralFlGal » Thu Sep 21, 2006 12:01 pm

Roadshow find in Florida yields big bucks

Pensacola, Florida - Two whale teeth with hand-carved etchings - 20 cents. Selling them 10 years later - nearly $36,000.

Virginia and Paul Willards of Warrington say they learned of their find when they went on the PBS show Antiques Roadshow.

An appraiser estimated the six-inch teeth dated back to the early 1800s. He helped the couple sell them this summer.

One went for $17,400 and the other for $18,560.

Virginia says she bought the teeth at an estate sale because she liked the etchings they had of tall ships.

The couple plans to use the money to finish building a new home. Their previous home was flooded by Hurricane Ivan.

WOW. Thats awesome. Amazing how much money people will spend on things like that. $35,960 is a huge chunk of change and probably well enough to finish thier home. What a blessing for them.
