Please Synchronize the Forum Clocks!

#1 Postby Rob-TheStormChaser » Tue Feb 11, 2003 12:35 pm

I keep seeing my computer time and the board's time as anywhere from 5-10 minutes different. Mine is correct...as far as I know and the boards are 10 minutes ahead! :o

As I've said before, the forum times are driven by our hosting service. I will request that they be updated/corrected but other than that there ins't much we can do about it.

Thanks for your understanding...

No problem...stil trying to get it fixed. California host has a group of fruits and nuts! lol The first response was that the system time could not be changed. Who do they think they are kidding?

Thats bizarre. I personally think that their clocks are meant to be 10 mins fast for some reason. Weird.

Hi Rob and Dolphin. I mentioned this a few days ago. I have the official time... which is this moment 8:05:47 PM Eastern Time.

Hopefully it will be fixed, there is a difference in time. Second and minutes are important... you can do a lot in even a minute.

Chad, Marshall do you not have a time tweak setting in the admin center? This is one additon that IBF added and has helped me tremendously when my server in Cali is jacked on times ;)

The only time adjustment is for the user off-set from GMT. Great suggestion but not on phpBB. I'm sioory that we're slaved to our host clock. Still working to get it changed. I just don't understand why it's so difficult. Just change the friggin server clock. I'm actually surprised that they don't have the server clock updating from one of a number of internet resources. More to follow....

Response (Javier O.) - 02/12/2003 08:25 PM
Dear Marshall,

We are in the process of building a NTP server to keep server time in sync all throught out
our servers. This should be completed wihthin next week. We apologize for the delay.

I felt like saying why not just change the server's time in the meantime lol

The more I thought about it the more pissed I got so I sent the following:

That's great but I still don't understand why someone can't just go to the server and change the time? I've been a network engineer for 16+ years, it only takes a second. The initial response from your support that the server time can't be corrected is just unacceptable.

lol guys...thanks for working on getting that resolved! Seems like I was getting dizzy seeing posts made by a few people 10 minutes into the future! lol Seemed like a simple fix, but there's always technicalities.

Thanks for your input on the chatroom. Chad and me are seriously considering using that server for our chatroom and that would eliminate our AOL problems for a majority of our chatters.

Thanks again.

Seems like the only way to seriously get anything done and expeditiously, is to get a human and have them do it when you need it done! Hope it works.
