I just checked an old thread where I posted (haven't been here in a long long time) and it appears his web address is showing up below my user name.

I couldn't imagine why I'd be singled out, so I did some checking and it appears that this is happening for anyone below a certain post count.

I thought at first that this was an instance of a worm which I read about, but things like the "poop" login name change and the "Storm2k wishcaster" indicates this was a hack specifically directed at Storm2k.

I recommend that everybody (especially mods and administrators) change their passwords as soon as you are sure the hack has been cleared up.

Also, be sure to check for bogus mod or admin accounts in the database (or hard-coded).

I assume this attack used the same exploit as the "Santy" worm - so upgrading php should close the hole.

I have a feeling this whole event is centered on the user, “Mike_Hawk”. After what happened early Christmas morning, I would not be surprised if it was him.

Yea this morning when I came here, you couldnt read nothing. Every other word in peoples posts was a link to that koin site, or the words "queer lololol." I was trying to figure out what was going on but couldnt read nothing on the site here. I also went to the kion site, and you guys are gonna kill me for being so stupid, but I actually became a member there, trying to figure out what was going on. I can't figure out how to cancel my account there. So I just logged off, but I still am a member. Duhhh. About to go delete all the email sent with that link (there were about 6 or 7) and run my spywear, and virus. :grrr: :grrr:

The user Mike Hawk was using the same proxy so they may be related. So far we've seen no evidence of any virus attached to this hack. You all have our sincerest apologies for the problems. Unfortunately some people just aren't happy unless they are trying to destroy something.

Is there a possibility that someone with access to the database could have unencrypted the passwords?

Please excuse my original post. It was hard to find words that weren't affected by the word censor and worked, but I wanted to get the message out not to click the links. I changed the Storm2k news scroller too, but he changed it back.

Thanks to Chad and Marshall for getting everything back to normal.
