I'm sure there would be some interest. But with everything between Metairie and Pascagoula essentially wiped out, where would it be? I'm booked solid thru April, but I'm good for any time after that.

We have a great tavern here in Pascagoula where we could meet.

I've got a couple of options - but I want this to be a group decision!

I think mid to late May might be a good time. Depending on what we decide, if it just be a luncheon/dinner type thing, or a Natchez Steamboat Cruise, or the Audubon Zoo. We know the options are limited, but also think it would be a good thing for us all!

Houma is not wiped out. And we are only an hour southwest of New Orleans. We could go on a swamp tour. LOL. I know there are not too many options in Houma. Only eating and bars.

Yea...Houma is rockin'! :D We could get together and feed some gators :D I'm up for the Natchez Cruise thing or something like that. I'm not too sure about the zoo though. Mid to late May is also good for me.

Whenever, but not the zoo. A lot of people still don't feel safe going to New Orleans and I am one of them. I have yet to travel to Biloxi/Gulfport area and don't want to see what is not there anymore, but the one of the Casino's would be a good place and they have good buffet's and it is sorta halfway in the middle of LA and FL!

But the place doesn't matter, as long as its not IN New Orleans.

Mary

Linda call me if you want.....I'm at home now because I am on sick leave, long story, but I'm in the book.

I could work with that, too!

Come on people, let's get some more suggestions out there so we can get some plans in place :D

The downtown area and the French Quarter look virtually untouched. The areas around the Lake, NOLA East, St. Bernard and Plaq. Pairishes still look like Katrina passed last weekend. I feel totally safe downtown and in the Quarter now. I actually feel safer now than I did before. That's because the majority of the stupid people left town.

I feel perfectly safe going there and do so nearly every weekend. Also, what skysummit said. It is absolutely fine to go to CBD/Uptown/Garden District/French Quarter. The Audubon Zoo and surrounding area is also quite safe (and they need the visitors to help defray the costs of rebuilding).

Well gosh, yes, since the whole place has been dry since November, the debris is cleared off of major roads/streets (it's just in piles next to it! :D ) in the areas mentioned above that experienced minor to medium flooding, and most of the harmfully crazy people are still not around. The vast majority of the endearingly crazy people that are still around won't hurt you. There's quite a bit of people back that are working, going to school, and just living life in general there.

It's not a warzone across the entire city anymore.

Really and truly there are some parts that, while they still exhibit damage and the marks of rebuilding, are largely back to the new normal. Except for a few stop lights that don't work, some shuttered restaurants/businesses and the aforementioned signs of wind/flood damage and repair.

HurryKane and skysummit are right Mary, it is not dangerous here! I would in the CBD, and I don't fear for my life.

I wish I could make that trip. Maybe I could make my trip to FSU to check out the campus around that time. What date are you looking at?

Since no one has really thrown up a date yet...how about Saturday, May 20, or Saturday, May 27? This would give people well enough time to book hotel rooms and such, maybe make the attendance list a little larger, and would also be a week to 2 weeks prior to the start of the season. Who knows....there may even be something to track then!

I'll block these two week-ends off on my calendar :D

How do these dates sound to everyone else?

That would be perfect! Would it be a weekend? I am planning on moving to Talahassee so it would be cool to meet my fellow neighbors on the gulf coast.
