Post Counts a thing of the past at storm2k

If you don't read these, it's your own fault. They will be enforced by the staff. You will also find Management Announcements & S2K Gatherings here

Overall if we were starting fresh, that wouldn't be a bad idea; except for the fact that would this be retro-active? I dunno.. seems like that could complicate matters unnecessarily. Some of those already at 3 or 4 would find themselves back to being a TS... silly to even worry about; but it could open a can of worms with those who really take all that too seriously. The easiest options, to me, would either be to just leave it the way it is, to develop some sort of fair means of "earning" the upgrade, or quite frankly, to do away with it altogether. Since this is really moot speculation as it will obviously not be a decision for anyone but the Admin and staff to make, we'll have to just play "wait and see."

or just let members make a custom one, of course within reasonable lines, easy enough that the staff doesn't have to waste time on something minor.

Another problem was members respect was based too much on post count alone, when it should be on what are you bringing to the table, are you contributing useful info or just trolling and joking around.

Which brings us back full circle... that would be tantamount to removing them altogether and going with your own personalized avatar.

I was puzzled when I read this earlier, being I had just woke up, but I like this idea, now people have no ammo for endless amounts of worthless posts.

This is another decision by staff that hopefully will let the board run smoother. Hurricane season is here and Id rather not sift thru umpteen million posts containing  and "omg" and "i agree" that are made by persons whose main interest is having a high post count.

Remember everyone: Not only are we a weather community we are also a source of information for an increasing number of people. Lets make it easier for EVERYONE, both lurkers who come here simply to read posts, and our regular posters, to find the information they want.

Don't know bout the rest but I am happier seeing more s2k supporter id's rather than post counts of any sort...numbers or rank.

I can definitely understand why it's important for users not to obsess about post counts. However, in addition to the removal of post counts, the option to view all of a user's posts (on that user's profile page) has been removed. I thought this was a useful feature, but if there's no way to turn that back on without re-displaying post counts, I can understand.

For the record, I'm somewhere between 1170 and 1200 posts at the current time.

I DO have to agree with this. It was a useful search tool; but not having used the "search" engine much, I guess I'll have to use that a bit more, unless they can re-insert a "view alll (or perhaps only the last X# of ) posts by a user. I don't know the technical ramifications here, so I'll just leave it to those much more familiar with such intricacies.

LOL

I personally have no problem with this as I dont care about post counts, but I think things like this will turn away a lot of members.

If you think not having postcounts turns people away then you need to ask if they were going to contribute quality posts or not. Seems those who value postcounts make so many senseless, duplicate posts (hitting the submit button twice) or see how many game threads they can answer in a minute.

I am thrilled that Storm2k has done away with post counts!

For those who are upset about it: there are plenty of places to increase your status on the net with posts, that is not what S2K is all about. It is about information sharing, in my opinion.

This is a fabulous resource, which also has some fun stuff for the "down times"...like waiting for recon....which I very much appreciate. The games forum can be a great way to "de-stress", for some more than others.

If the search function is not working, I'd like to see that back as it is useful. Sometimes you want to know what a certain person said or has to say on a topic.

In closing, I don't post a huge amount, but am here lurking for info fairly frequently and really appreciate everything that Storm2K has to offer. I just wish I had the time and expertise to volunteer to help out. Meanwhile, kudos to those of you who do, it is the best weather site on the net! :bday:

Sounds Good

I know that some of us don't post as much, but hope that when we do, we say something worthwhile. Sounds good.

OK with me. I have been a member since 03 and only had around 510 posts and many of those were in the off topic area--LOL. I agree it may keep some usless posts from some trying to get their status changed. I also became a S2K supporter making the category a moot point. At least I will have that desigination as soon as the mods get my PM and have time to change it. This is a great board and I come here daily at least usually more to see if anything is happening that I have not heard about. I am in my car all day so I miss a lot of news and weather. You guys are my lifeline at times.

People yak-it-ti-yak a streak
and waste your time of day,
but Mister Ed will never speak,
unless he has something to say...
