I think its a great idea, though I actually think it doesn't go quite far enough and you really need to get rid of the post system completely. It's the only I think to completely get rid all of those one liners.

I dare say instead of 1 liners to raise the total posts, they'll just do it to ramp up the categoires instead. i think you'd have to change the categories system as well if your going to stmap it out completely.

Still its a good move and I suspect those having a good moan are those who also want to bump their post count up as well.

Also get rid of the people who bring nothing to the table but running up post counts.

Frankly, I don't think anything short of banning just about everyone will get rid of "all" those one liners. I agree that many of them can be particularly annoying, especially those who post an emoticon like  and nothing else, or those who overdo it in the "Talking Tropics" forum where folks are more interested in the latest tropic news (which can be very important to them); however sometimes a little levity is a welcomed break in the action. I've done it betimes, as have many of the mods, analysts, and even admin... I don't have a problem with an occassional one liner that is cogent, and/or provides a little bit of levity--yes this can be overdone, but I find that to be the exception rather than the norm. I've caught myself openly chuckling at the cleverness of some of the "one-liners", and do not believe these to be in any way designed at pushing up post count. The post count thing is gone, and good riddance--overkill could wind up making a good thing into something that in and of itself is burdensom. JMHO.

And thanks, SouthFloridaWx, I appreciate that; even though I do sometimes have to straddle that keyboard as brevity is another area I'm not well known for. I guess it's either the much maligned "one-liner" ..or a general epistle... feast or famine. :D

Why should be get rid of one liners? My screen is pretty big so one line can pack a lot of information. If you mean one liners it should be "OMG" or  or "It looks good", junk like that.

Like we've said many times - quality over quantity. Many times, those one-liners can be very informative. And I've seen a number of copied and pasted paragraphs upon paragraphs that could have been summed up with just a link. It's all about the quality of the post.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... I noticed this just recently and thought it was a failure of a feature instead of an implementation. THANK YOU. :D

Any progress on this? I'm guessing it wasn't possible... but if not, thanks for trying anyway. :)

As part of this process we've decided to lower the post counts needed to achieve rank badges. This takes away te last incentive for people to post just for the sake of posting. It also means we have a lot more CAT5 members. :-)
