I didn't get this problem at all previously.

Don't use the Storm2k link x-y-no posted; for some reason the server considers everyone who uses it to connect to be clones of Chad, and any new "clones" over five get killed by the server. You'll have to use the Java or Esper.net web-based links.

Java: http://www.esper.net/pjirc/ (change your name, then type /join #storm2k)

HTML: http://windows.esper.net/publicirc/irc.cgi (change your name, and change the room to #storm2k)

Remember, the best way to connect is with a client (mIRC, Trillian, Colloquy, etc.).

IF YOU CANNOT USE YOUR NICK, PLEASE ADD "S2K_" IN FRONT OF IT. AS THIS IS AN ESTABLISHED SERVER WE HAVE MOVED TO, FOR THE UPSIDE OF FAST MAINTAINENCE SERVICE THERE'S THE DOWNSIDE THAT MANY NICKS ARE ALREADY TAKEN. IF YOUR NICK HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN, USE THE "S2K_" TAG TO AVOID GETTING KILLED BY NICKSERV.

Huh ... that's too bad. It seemed like it was working well at first. I guess the problem is that to the IRC server everyone actually appears to be connecting from the storm2k server ...

Strange, though ... that second link (the HTML one) appears to be the exact same app I installed on our server.

It is, but it isn't. The one on Esper doesn't think everyone connecting from it is a clone of something and assigns different hostmasks to each person who uses it to connect.

With the season beginning to heat up we request that you use your board nick when chatting. It's too confusing to remember who is supposed to be who. And if you think i'm confusing you know, join chat and you'll see what i mean

I am confused??

The S2K chat on Stormdancing still works???
I really would miss all of you.

But both chatrooms still work... I just logged in ... I was alone but they are there:)
What it be so bad to have more then one chat room?
Sounds like many are having probs with the change anyhow.

Dang, I dunno what happened. I am on mIRC and found EsperNet server, clicked on it and somehow when I clicked s2k got redirected back to stormdancing. So I went to do it all over again and now the EsperNet option on the server list is suddenly gone................*wonders how the heck that happened*
Sooooooo I went to add a new server to the list to try and do it that way and now it says connecting to EsperNet(6667) and the retrys to no avail. I can't get in. Maybe I don't have the right port number.... Could someone tell me what port to put in so I can add the EsperNet server back to my list. Thanks.

It does no good to have an off topic chat area when they don't use it. I've just spent the last 30 minutes watching folks leave because they wanted to talk about weather and several in there insisted on discussing Mythbusters.........................even after being reminded that there was an off topic chat area. :(

I'm in both rooms and the OT room is used. I went back and reviewed the chatlog and there was just a short time when s2k chat was OT. Many of the chatters have been in there for awhile. They've been talking with promets and each other about Dean, Erin and Flossie. There's even been talk about the earthquake. So please don't judge chat on a few minutes of OT.

No one is judging anything CM. I was merely stating what I observed. I'm still there and it has gotten back to the topic of weather.

Ok last night I had to re-boot my computer and when I tried to go back in the chat room I keep getting the message Opening Link, Closing Link (too many connections from host). So I tried again this morning same message. Any other way to get in room?

If you're using Firefox or some other Mozilla variant browser, you can download chatzilla. Worked quite well when I tried it out the other day.

Once it's installed, type "irc:irc.esper.net" in the firefox address bar and chatzilla should connect. Then "/join #storm2k"

Having issues with the chat? Dave, an IRCop for Esper, has kindly added a Java page for connecting to the #storm2k chat here:
